ancestral princes

Yanìs, the Great Mother, selected one hundred exemplary creatures and transformed them into humanoid beings with intelligence, capable of creating increasingly advanced societies. For each race, Yanìs created two individuals, one male and one female, who would reproduce and give birth to their offspring. These first two individuals are revered as the Ancestral Princes and are said to sit in the great ring of light and dust that embraces the planet alongside the deities themselves.

Yanìs began with fish, the first and simplest creatures in physiognomy. It selected six from the ocean and four from the rivers, giving the first group a large size and might and providing the second group with legs to move on land. It then moved on to amphibians and chose only three, but ones that were both mentally and physically adept. For reptiles, Yanìs selected twelve creatures, four of which were legless snakes, four were mighty and armored, and four were small and cunning.
Next, it chose fifteen birds that were well-scattered and equally distributed throughout the planet, even including two from the perpetual ice of Antarctica. However, only four of them were granted the ability to hover in flight like their feral ancestors. Lastly, Yanìs selected mammals, the most complex and abundant creatures. It chose fifty-five of them from all over the mainland, including large and small, slow and fast, strong and delicate ones. Yanìs also added five creatures that could live in water and one that could fly.
It is fair to say that Yanìs did not choose a specific species for each race but created a new one that incorporated the best qualities of each species. This new race contained the most exemplary aspects in its anthropomorphic development.

Initially, the Ancestral Princes struggled to differentiate between instinct and evolution, between their feral ancestry and their superior development. This led to bitter rivalries and enmities among the naturally adversarial races, especially between prey and predators.
However, this also had the positive outcome of allowing them to develop families and, subsequently, societies founded on the memory of their animal origins. Each of the Ancestral Princes taught their descendants to live in respect of this memory, never forgetting where they come from and the values on which their lives should be based.

The Ancestral Princes continue to exist beyond the death of their bodies and reside on the Ring, the stardust abode of the deities. However, unlike the deities, they never reveal themselves to mortals becaus e they lack the power and physical bodies to do so. But, if necessary, they can communicate with their descendants through dreams, showing the exemplary appearance they had in life.
