Deers
The Deer people can be generally compared to a blend of fictitious fantasy society and members of Cervidae biological family.
Deers are one of the fifty-five races of anthropomorphic mammals that populate Yanìs, and are grouped in the subgenus of Ungulates together with Horses, Mouflons and Zebras.
Physically, they are very tall, and often stout as well, reaching an average height of well over 6 feet, although females are often physically smaller. Coat color generally varies between red and brown, but several, especially younger, feature white spots on a brown coat. Antlers, which are temporary and regularly regrow, are only present in males and can even reach 1 foot in height.
The Deer people have a society based entirely on Druidic cult, managed as a theocracy erected on natural balance, and this affects every aspect of their daily and community life. Their architecture consists of settlements made up of temporary huts without fences or boundaries, habit that is cozy in their semi-nomadic tradition. Their livelihood is based exclusively on gathering wild fruits and herbs, with very rare crop activities; and even their very organization, an entirely andro-centric pyramidal hierarchy, is purely primaeval. This fundamentalist lifestyle has obviously prevented them from developing many of the common civilized skills. The Deer people are indeed not particularly skilled in building, since they persist in not wanting to cut down trees or dig up rocks, they don't know any cultivation or dairy techniques, and their weaving skills are limited to the use of plant materials such as hemp and reeds. On the other hand, their ceramic skills are interesting since, while showing great refinement, they don't last over time, but rather return to the natural cycle when left in mud.
The history of their unique form of government goes back to the dawn of their social history. It was the grandson of their Ancestral Prince, the first-born of Diacodexis' eldest son, who wanted to publicly abdicate the title of King of Deers in order to dedicate his life entirely to the Great Mother Yanìs' druidic cult. However, his charisma and wisdom were so great that the Deer people decided to follow his leadership anyway. Thus, the first Druid-King of Ersynia was born. Since then, upon the death of each Druid-King, the Synod of Archdruids, the highest spiritual offices, meets to elect the successor to the throne from among all the aspiring Archdruids.
Much of their culture resides in oral compositions, especially in music, singing, oratory, and poetry. Although they have developed a profitable literary culture, they rarely transcribe their knowledge on parchment unless it is necessary to pass it on to other cultures or races.
They speak the Commal language, common to all Anthro mammal races, and the most commonly spoken language on the planet.
Religiously they are strongly devoted to the druidic path refusing the deities worship, although respecting the deities and without denying their value and commitment to the Anthro lives. There are no deities’ temples in Deer people cities and territories, there can be found only druidic circles and menhirs dedicated to their Ancestral Princes.
Their Ancestral Princes were Diacodexis and Eumeryx, who taught their race the importance of maintaining and respecting the male hierarchy, unless one is able to oust a superior. The family and power games are based on the amplitude and prosperity of a male's harem: all the doe have a moral obligation to guard and raise fawns without the need to involve their spouse, while males have a moral obligation to expand the harem, increasing the family prestige, and competing in vocalizations to show off their will.
