He's a scary Shark, big and tough, covered in scars, baleful and sociopathic. He's the Captain of the Maelstrom pirate vessel and has earned a reputation across oceans for his heinous cruelty and utter lack of mercy. He's a character totally devoid of scruples, empathy and any goodness, a mad criminal who has no respect for life, and takes anything he want with greed, using brute force, terror and murder.
Nobody knows almost anything about his story and it's known only that he was First Officer for about two years: a bloodthirsty pirate and a proud devotee to Teeje and his former captain, then he killed and devoured his captain to take his place. It's said that since then his madness exponentially increased and some believe that it was that first taste of Anthro's flesh that drove him mad, while others say it was already latent in him. However, when he plunders ships, he orders his crew to kill everyone, except the captain, who will remain prisoner until dinner time, then Bonescal will then take care of having dinner with his captive, literally. Reportedly, Bonescal seems to feed on nothing but alive Anthros: he’s a cannibal.
Bonescal and Maelstrom’s crew are among the first characters to appear during the Tale, and they will always be faithful to the Black Bishop. During first season finale he will leave Ymas on Rat people territory, and receive a visit from Teeje itself: unlike his crew, Bonescal fears nothing, not even a Deity and, sure of having to face divine judgment to save his own life, he'll prepare for the fight, but Teeje will laughs of this. The piracy's deity will show itself to congratulate the captain, because he seized a unique power opportunity, and doing so he has not allowed his feelings, much less his faith, to hinder him, just as Teeje's cult teaches.
Before the end of the Tale, Bonescal will come to a premature death, and then to an aberrant rebirth. Not only will he be gripped by undeath, but it will be a lucid undeath that will allow him to release and fully experience the insane cruelty he has always carried within.
Jurgen is an unskilled fighter who compensates with savagery, heedless of injuries, never wears armors but just a long sailor-jacket with captain's ranks and a tricorne hat. He only fights using kukri and katar, ritual and sacred weapons in Teeje’s cult.
