N'gaire
She's a vicious female toad, devious, ambitious and particularly smart. She’s called Witch Mother because she's the arcane matron of the whole kingdom, one of the most important political and social figures. She’s literally a power addict: can't do without it and always wants more.

For this reason, she also married the Shaman chief and certainly not for love since he's a blind, emaciated, sickly old toad, particularly naive albeit being elderly and with a bad temper.
For the same reason, moreover, she will immediately swear allegiance to Ymas. Indeed, as soon as she realizes she's facing one of the Ancients Fallen lost Shard, N’gaire will not waste time in order to secure that power for herself.
As for all Toad people, N'gaire is also a fervent lohudonist and despises deities’ intervention in Anthros' life.

This is another reason why she doesn't fear, rather gladly welcomes, the danger inherent in the use of Shards. Perhaps she'll never be able to persuade herself of Ymas' mental stability, or even of his goal to bring the Ancients Fallen back to life and the world back to primal chaos, but all this won't stop her thirst for power.
She's a character who doesn't like violence or war, not because she's a coward but because she prefers slowly planning her moves, using subtle, devious methods and possibly leave no trace of her actions. However, she knows the need to start a war and during the course of the Tale she'll also prove to be a gifted troop commander, a skill she has learned in her long years of studying summoning-magic. When she enters battle, she mainly relies on the summoning of sub-elemental creatures of ash, steam, dust, or of stone or air elemental golems. Her Familiar is a giant land snail, while her Source of Power is composed of a staff of mahogany wood and a phylactery of green-tourmaline. She’s often seen driving her personal Kelpie along with her personal guards.
She is the only antagonistic character who will survive the end of the Tale, managing to escape thanks to a ruse. After the wars are over and Ymas' defeat/death, she will begin to concoct a plan, studying ancient and dusty tomes of magic and looking for a way to regain that power released by the Shard. Her enduring addiction and craving for power will only end with her death, many decades later, maybe.
