Tabansi
He's an adult Rhino with dark-gray coat, tall, powerful and slightly overweight, with an exuberant and often superficial personality. He's a character with little culture, but neither stupid nor sloppy, he's just a simple soul and down to earth.
He's a Phalanx, a free mercenary who fought for Ikora's army but who abandoned the service in protest. Tabansi is a character who demands very little from life: food, fun, alcohol, chatters, sex and obviously battles. Despite having many females who would like him, he has never married, and has dedicated his whole life to war, fighting and adventure: this would make him a bad husband and an even worse father. He's comfortable with his discontinuous relationship with Mashdu, a friend who occasionally turns into a lover and who, above all, gives him adventures and battles well paid for by the Grand Academy. However, this doesn't mean he's a cynical or good-heart lacking character, far from it. His simple morality always guides him towards common good: if something, like a law or maybe just a decision, brings harm or discomfort to someone for no good reasons, then it's wrong and must be avoided.
During the third season, Tabansi is recruited by Mashdu at the very end of an army Phalanx protest rally. Despite the heated rivalry between Rhinos and Elephants, in fact, many soldiers of Ikora have begun to protest the decision taken to trample Cheetahs' territories in order to attack Yphoree.
Having fought the border wars against Yphoree in the front row, Tabansi was able to witness wars' horrors even up too close. He knows well, even if not in first person, the pain of a mother who holds her murdered son's body, or that of a father who looks at his ground-razed house. Tabansi knows well how much pain and loss follow the war and, since he doesn't want to change his life nor stop to start a family, he believes it's fair not to cause pain to those who love him. His life is a lonely road made of battle, drunkenness and laughter, nothing more. For this very reason he'll face death against the Kraken, during the fourth season, with a pleased smile.
As any Phalanx, he always wears a heavy armor made of steel and bronze when in battle, and his weapon, his favorite and only one, which he calls "his beloved girl", is a chenze, the traditional Rhinos' two-handed weapon.
