Coralfishes

The Coralfish people can be generally compared to a blend of Thaitian Polynesian society and members of the Acanthuroidei biological suborder.
Coralfishes are one of the ten races of anthropomorphic fishes that populate Yanìs, and are grouped in the subgenus of Coastals together with Eels and Salmons.

Physically, they're quite small, averaging around 3-3.5 feet in length. The head is relatively small, with a large mouth and protruding eyes surmounted by two growths. Along almost the entire body they have several sharp, non-poisonous spines which give them a very bizarre appearance. They feature a colorful livery, with the widest range of different liveries of any other Anthro race: some feature a lionfish-like livery, others a surgeonfish, tang, clownfish, angelfish, butterflyfish, royal gramma, moorish idol, and many others. Their skin can be temporarily covered with a mucus used in skin breathing, and this means they can live out of water for three or four days, but they have a constant need to fully bathe their body in saltwater at least once a day. Their fries are born ovoviviparous, meaning they hatch within the mother's body, and families usually a family can have even more than ten or twelve fry throughout their life.

The Coralfish people mainly inhabit the southernmost island of the Tilka large archipelago, bordering Selikan's cetacean peoples, even if they don't use the majority of the inland territory, living instead in coastal waters. The island coasts are divided into several realms with specific territories for each clan, and their leaders are connected by loyal relationships based on kinship and economic power. Each clan is made up of a rahi (chief), some ari'i (nobles), and several ota'ai (sub-chiefs). The rahi has no absolute political power, but has to deal with the ari'i and ota'ai in councils, and the ari'i are often scholars and magicians, bearer of the so-called mana (supernatural power that for many would match Lohudon or Ki). The further the ari'i are from the clan leader, the more autonomous they are and counterbalance his authority.

The marae is the center of the clan's spiritual and social life which ranges from simple family platforms to larger buildings for high-ranking chiefs: here, leaders are proclaimed, and it's also a place for war preparation, birth celebrations, and burial rituals.
The annual heiva festival is a celebration of traditional culture, dance, music, and sports, including longdistance races between neighboring islands on a va'a (outrigger canoe).

They speak the Itthen language, common to all Anthro fish races, a guttural language accompanied by strong facial expressions, understandable even underwater where sounds are less easy to hear (perhaps a Japanese gibberish).

Religiously they are mostly devoted to Teeje (deity of navigation and piracy), Najan (deity of community and agriculture), and Cilldyn (deity of stars and exploration), but they’re also widely devoted to traditional Druidic cults and Zantist ascetism’s self-spiritual research.

Their Ancestral Princes were Teva Uta and Teva Tai, who taught their race that there are only two things that really matter in their life: coral and shoal. There is no more important task than protecting one's home and the reef one lives in, and protecting one's family and the legacy of one's way of life. The shallow, warm waters of the reef protect their lives and their tranquility, just as any good Coralfish should protect it. The balance in multitude is vital, as the resources that are offered by the ocean must never be abused.

Footnote
Typical of Coralfish people is the use of a boat called samundree, a particular boat that some define as slipper-shaped, having front part deeper and formed by several bridges, while back is mainly composed of a gangway to which sails are attached, always laterally to be able to exploit ocean currents instead of wind.
