Geckos

The Gecko people can be generally compared to a blend of Sama-Bajau Austronesian society and members of the Gekkonidae biological family.
Geckos are one of the twelve races of anthropomorphic reptiles that populate Yanìs, and are grouped in the subgenus of Saurians together with Chameleons, Iguanas and Lizards.

Physically, they are among the smallest Anthro races with an average height of about 3 feet. They have a cylindrical but somewhat flattened body. They have vertical pupils and their soft skin is generally gray with red speckles, but they can change their skin color to blend into environment. They are strong climbers with foot pads that can support their entire weight on a vertical surface for long periods. Unlike most other Anthros, they reproduce through oviparity, with females laying a pair of eggs in a grasses basin after fertilization occurs through sexual acts.

The Gecko people usually lead a maritime lifestyle, linked to sailing with small wooden boats, but many clans are instead known for their traditional inland culture. The region they inhabit is mainly composed of atolls and very small islands, which are often not very hospitable or even lacking in raw materials, making it difficult to adapt to such an environment. Historically, groups of Geckos were described as distinct between those more mainland-oriented and stable, and those who instead lived in more maritime and nomadic groups on boats. These distinctions are fading, as most of the Gecko people have long since abandoned life on boats in favor of stilt houses in shallow coastal waters. While some have received honorary titles such as datu or panglima, they usually have little authority over the Geckos' community.

The society is traditionally highly individualistic, and the largest political unit is the clan clustered around mooring points, rarely more. Unlike most neighboring peoples, Gecko people are also more or less egalitarian and do not practice a caste system. To maintain social cohesion, much importance is given to kinship and mutual work rather than official authority. Traditional songs are transmitted orally through generations and usually, chants are sung during the kanduli pagkawin (wedding) celebration accompanied by dances and musical instruments such as flute, xylophone, and gong. Geckos who have settled the most on land are expert infantrymen, with a strong deer and wild pigs riding tradition, making them exceptional in Göenar, where riding has never been widespread. Their traditional knights' costume is made up of a black or white long-sleeved tunic with gold buttons and a spear, and their steeds too are also colorful harnessed with brass bells attached.

They speak Erpeton language, common to all Anthro reptile races, a harsh, hissing language, spoken mostly in the southern hemisphere of the planet (perhaps an Arabic gibberish).

Religiously they are mostly devoted to Ayrus (deity of meditation and prophecies), Dykren (deity of gamble and subterfuge), and Mizame (deity of lust and anarchy), but they’re also widely devoted to traditional Druidic cults and Zantist ascetism’s self-spiritual research.

Their Ancestral Princes were To'ongan and Kagayan, who taught their race that invisibility is their primary weapon and their best way to keep surviving. Making the most of their incredible adhesion abilities, unmatched night vision, and perfect stillness, they are unreachable to any enemy. Nightlife is much preferable for a Gecko, as this benefit it over all others. So it does not matter if the rest of the world keeps going during the day; a Gecko can always regain during the night.

Footnote
Typical of Gecko people is the use of alasara, a chain weapon divided into four parts, each joined thanks to three large rings, each chain link has two small sharp hooks and, at weapon ends, there are two spear heads.
