Lizards

The Lizard people can be generally compared to a blend of Papuan Melanesian society and members of the Agamidae and Lacerta biological family.
Lizards are one of the twelve races of anthropomorphic reptiles that populate Yanìs, and are grouped in the subgenus of Saurians together with Chameleons, Geckos and Iguanas.

Physically, they are relatively small, rarely more than 3 feet tall and weighing around 20-30kg. They have a flat, triangular head, flat trunk, and a very long tail. Their color tends to be brown or gray with spots and blotches of darker colors mixed in a mottled fashion to give the appearance of tree bark. There is not one standard color; rather, coloration varies according to their environment. The most distinct feature of them is the large ruff of skin that usually lies folded back against the neck, which they use to appear more menacing, resolve territorial disputes, or during courtship; but it's not always present. Like a few other Anthros, they reproduce by oviparity, and females lay a pair of eggs in a grasses basin after fertilization occurs through sexual acts.

The Lizard people are believed to have arrived considerably later, as part of a gradual seafaring migration from Mogress, possibly originating in neighbor zones of Monitor people. The first inhabitants adapted to new ecologies and, in time, developed one of the very earliest known agricultures. The Mori Ara great plains' highlands are an early and independent center of agriculture, with evidence of irrigation going back at least 5000 years. Anyway, most societies practice bug-breeding, supplemented by farming and gathering. Bugbased trade and bug-based feasts are a common theme with other Kammon and Göenar peoples.

The Lizard people are a very quiet and simple society, although ancient warfare was a factor in the evolution of their houses: separate housing for males' groups from the single-family houses of females and cubs, for mutual protection and for a clear separation of caste roles. Baileo is a custom house and a representation of Lizards' culture, having an important function in community life. Sometimes it also serves as a repository for sacred objects and a place of traditional ceremonies. It is present in every Lizard people's village and is usually a village landmark with its open architecture. It also has a large size and unique appearance when compared to other buildings, traditionally built from local materials such as planked timber, stone or brick with a wood shingle, and thatch or zinc roof.

They speak Erpeton language, common to all Anthro reptile races, a harsh, hissing language, spoken mostly in the southern hemisphere of the planet (perhaps an Arabic gibberish).

Religiously they are both devoted to spiritual Lohudonist practices and to Druidic traditions, refusing the deities worship, although respecting them and without denying their value and commitment into Anthros’ lives. There are no deities’ temples in Lizards’ territories, only sacred places dedicated to their Ancestral Princes can be found.

Their Ancestral Princes were Kurudu and Yali, who taught their race that those who are less conspicuous and have the good habit of minding their own business will surely have a better life. Clashes and skirmishes between civilian Lizards are acceptable, and sometimes even tempting, but actual wars are a thing to stay away from. In the worst case, one can always lose something to get its freedom and security, be it its tail, which will grow back, or some acquaintance or relative, who would sooner or later have gone t o old age anyway.

Footnote
Typical of Lizard people is the use of fogaari, a particular weapon whose shape vaguely resembles a spatula or a pan, built in smooth wood with indentations of bones or real teeth. It's rarely used for melee attacks and is mostly used instead as a thrown weapon, also called "flying dread" due to the spooky hiss it emits as it spins in fligh.
