Hares
The Hare people can be generally compared to a blend of Tolkien's Hobbit society and members of the Leporidae biological family.
Hares are one of the fifty-five races of anthropomorphic mammals that populate Yanìs, and are grouped in the subgenus of Burrowers together with Bats, Moles and Raccoons.
Physically, they are quite small and rarely exceed 3.5 feet in height, with ears included, reaching a maximum of 4 feet. They have incredibly strong legs, which enable them to run quickly and make nimble, high, and wide jumps. Their fur comes in a variety of colors, including shades of white, gray, brown, and even black, with spots and markings that distinguish each individual.
The Hare people do not typically lay claim to large territories and are content with peaceful, small counties. They have no kings but only occasionally appoint military leaders in times of need, and govern themselves through municipal councils, councils of same-area town halls, and councils of town halls' councils. They do not acknowledge any noble or monarchical traditions and instead rely on the guidance of family elders or a skilled burgomaster.
The Hare people's family traditions and bonds are so strong that they remain intact despite the rise and fall of empires around them. Additionally, their society is matriarchal; while males hold high civil office, only females have the right to vote. Visually, their villages resemble those of the Hobbits, with small houses carved into the ground and wooden doors peeking out among the hills. This includes temples and community buildings like the town hall. Some families even connect their houses to those of close relatives through tunnels and underground gates to maintain strong family bonds. All their cities are named after an edible flower or field grass, as per tradition.
The Hare people are strict vegetarians and is an agricultural society, with a strong knowledge of alchemy and herbal medicine. To take advantage of trade markets, they also developed a strong skill in dairy animal breeding, which, combined with their underground living, allows them to produce high-quality dairy products. Another important aspect of their economy is apple cider, which seems they may have invented. Art is important to them and includes painting, theater, and weaving, but all sports activities are even more valued. They have a sexually open society and their strong breeding instincts and long fertility cycles in both sexes have led them to embrace any form of copulation, both between genders and races, a rarity among other races on the planet.
They speak the Commal language, common to all Anthro mammal races, and the most commonly spoken language on the planet.
Religiously they are mostly devoted to Mizame (deity of drunkenness and lust), Rowana (deity of love and family), and Kalaukeke (deity of competition and battle), but here and there also thrive the cults of Jimbasi (deity of honor and nobility), Ekoari (deity of commerce and science), Najan (deity of hunt and agriculture), and Azlean (deity of medicine and peace).
Their ancestral princes were Harföet and Myrtle, who taught their race that relationships and ties with other races can be beneficial but it's good to never lower one's guard and always keep ears straight, being careful to every danger and especially to possible betrayals. Harföet, in particular, emphasized the importance of physical fitness and encouraged fighting competitions and sports games to stay in shape.
