Molossians
The Molossian people can be generally compared to a blend of Etruscan and Tyrrhenian society and members of the Canis Familiaris biological subspecies.
Molossians are one of the fifty-five races of anthropomorphic mammals that populate Yanìs, and are grouped in the subgenus of Canids together with Foxes, Jackals, Wild dog and Wolves.
Physically, they are of medium height, never exceeding 6 feet in height or 80 kg in weight. Their tails are often curled, but not too tightly. They have a big lion-like head, a short and broad muzzle, a straight nose, and a stern gaze similar to modern Newfoundland dogs. They have a strong bone structure and well-developed musculature. Their tail and shoulders are often covered in abundant fur that resembles a mane, and their thick fur protects them from the weather. The fur is black on the back with reddish-brown or brown to gray markings on the chest, much like that of modern German Shepherds.
Molossian people’s society itself, as well as their art and architecture, were extremely simple yet idyllic before they were conquered by the Linian Republic, fifty years prior to the Tale. They had territories organized in groups of small villages close together, constructed with simple wooden and clay buildings and each governed independently by a village king. Molossians were also known for their excellent ability to manage large grazing livestock farms, their farming and hunting skills, and early mining activity due to the presence of small but numerous iron, alum, and salt mines throughout their territory. Molossian people were not able to counter the conquest by the newborn Linìan repubblic, and this was due to small rivalries between their cities, which led to the need and urgency of alliances only when it was too late. Thus, military and territorial advance of Boar people overwhelmed Molossians' villages in a very short period of time.
During the Tale time, however, the Molossians consider themselves as the best allies of the Linian Republic, despite some groups of rebels and dissatisfaction due to the Boars' refusal to grant them the rank of free citizens and to give value to their Gens. Despite their social inferiority, many Molossians have adapted to life within the Linian Republic, thanks, above all, to the introduction of innovative building techniques, the bureaucratic organization of the Boar people, and the many comforts brought by the Republic.
They speak the Commal language, common to all Anthro mammal races, and the most commonly spoken language on the planet.
Religiously they are mostly devoted to Rowana (deity of love and family), Najan (deity of hunt and agriculture), and Ekoari (deity of commerce and crafting), but here and there thrive the cults of Jimbasi (deity of honor and courage), Cilldyn (deity of stars and exploration), Azlean (deity of medicine and peace), and Kalaukeke (deity of battle and storms).
Their ancestral princes were Kaxios and Tocsha, who taught their race that the four most important qualities are Trustworthiness, Attention, Loyalty, and Protection. Trustworthiness because one should never be distracted from their tasks; Attention because it's important to be aware of one's surroundings in every situation; Loyalty because the pack is of utmost importance and betrayal is intolerable; and Protection because it is essential to protect one's family, possessions, and territory.
