Antelopes
The Antelope people can be generally compared to a blend of ancient Syrian and Phoenicians society and members of Hippotraginae biological subfamily.
Antelopes are one of the fifty-five races of anthropomorphic mammals that populate Yanìs, and are grouped in the subgenus of Grazers together with Camels, Giraffes and Llamas.
Physically, they are quite tall and bulky, able to reach a height of 6.5 feet (horns excluded), with a weight that varies around 2 quintals. They have a muscular neck and body, and their head is adorned with two large ringed horns that can reach 3.5 feet in length, although in females they tend to be shorter and thinner. Their muzzle, neck, part of the back, and legs are often patterned with intricately black streaks, while their belly is white, and the rest of their body varies from shades of brown to brown-gray.
Before the Antelopes were conquered by the Lions and before their grim fate of barbaric slavery, their cities consisted mainly of large clay and straw houses that extended only one floor. The cities were surrounded by tall, albeit weak, mud and stone walls, with few and rare community buildings of monumental size, often flanked by large port areas and, obviously, surrounded by huge countryside dedicated to crops. Although they were born as a farming and cropper society, they quickly developed a thriving seafaring culture, becoming traders and, in a very short time, even feared pirates. Through cabotage, the practice of sailing not far from the coast, they could easily manage to attack, refuel with fresh water, and load large quantities of assets, looted or bought. According to some historical sources from El-Aran, it seems that they probably were the first people, between Cawat and Sarema, to trace nautical routes using stars as reference points. The Eel people, however, claim to own such primacy. Unfortunately, after their submission, they were forced to leave all maritime activities.
Although they were never a very united and well-regulated reign, the Antelope people were a small kingdom in which each city was ruled by a šhophét, who were headed by a king. Certainly, this almost-lack of central government unity did not play in their favor during the conquest, and unfortunately, since their conquest, all of their cities were completely demolished, replaced by the Lions' new cities, and their new rulers/owners relegated them to live in wooden and straw huts, often at the mercy of the weather and without the chance to own anything, but above all, to be not able to build or forge anything else of their tradition. Their cruelest penalty, however, remains their duty to raise animal-antelopes, which will then be fed to their rulers.
They speak the Commal language, common to all Anthro mammal races, and the most commonly spoken language on the planet.
Religiously they are mostly devoted, as their owners impose on them, to Jimbasi (deity of courage and nobility), Rowana (deity of family and hearth), and Caamiran (deity of law and cities), but here and there still survive a few hidden cells of outlawed cults of Teeje (deity of navigation and piracy), Cilldyn (deity of stars and streets), and Najan (deity of agriculture and community).
Their ancestral princes were Ishtar and Lilith, and they taught their race the primary importance of the herd and the respect for hierarchy. In every herd, there is, and always must be, a dominant male that everyone must obey. Second in command is the dominant female, and so on. All females are obliged to satisfy the dominant's sexual pleasures, even to the detriment of their spouse. However, for his part, the dominant has the responsibility and duty to take care of all females and calves, whether they are his children or not.
