Lynxes
The Lynx people can be generally compared to a blend of fictitious fantasy society and members of Lynx biological genus.
Lynxes are one of the fifty-five races of anthropomorphic mammals that populate Yanìs, and are grouped in the subgenus of Felines together with Cheetahs, Hyenas, Leopards, Lions and Tigers.
Physically they are of medium to short stature, barely reaching 5 feet in height. They have very developed legs, which are long and have bulky paws, and this allows them to move more easily on thick snow cover. Their tails are short, truncated, and terminate in a sleeve, measuring just under a foot in length. The quantity of spots and the color of a Lynx's coat varies according to each specimen: spotted, streaked, uniform, or rosette, with colors ranging from gray to red. The cheeks, belly, chin, and area around the eyes are generally cream-colored.
Haughty, cultured, and ruthless, the Lynx people are a dynamic force in the world. They are an industrious and self-confident people with refined cultural tastes. Having a flair for organization, Lynxes believe they are inherently more capable of handling any situation than others. This confidence might take the form of either helpful advice or arrogant dismissal of different viewpoints. This self-assurance is bolstered by a long and rich cultural heritage and a love for learning, which manifests in literature, arcane studies, and inventions. Furthermore, according to their common sayings, Lynxes are very serious about oaths, contracts, and promises: they believe in playing by the rules but at the same time, they check for loopholes to self-advantage on those own rules. This obviously led to a total lack of riots against their rulers and a constant and peaceful lineage of many kings.
Their towns, made up of small houses of chiseled rocks scattered around a central market or the royal palace for their capital, are often built deep into forests and connected by dirt roads invisible to most. They are a predominantly carnivorous people, which means they excel in hunting as much as in breeding and meat processing. Yet, over time, they have learned to balance their diet with fruit and vegetables, thus learning the art of cultivation. They are also excellent in many forms of art, especially refined crafting, and they own many plentiful mines. The Lynx people show an inordinate pleasure for pomp and wealth and favor rich trappings both in their homes and on their outfits, such as velvet or silk gowns, often covered with a cloak of rare and valuable color, or made of hide and fur.
They speak the Commal language, common to all Anthro mammal races, and the most commonly spoken language on the planet.
Religiously they are mostly devoted to Najan (deity of hunt and community), Rowana (deity of hearth and family), and Dykren (deity of subterfuge and challenges), but here and there also thrive the cult of Jimbasi (deity of nobility and courage), Madra (deity of deceit and discord), Sia Mori (deity of arts and will), and Dekar (deity of pride and wealth).
Their Ancestral Princes were Albion and Rozenn, who taught their race the importance of discretion, of knowing how to act silently and secretly, and not attracting attention while always remaining alert and aware of everything that happens around them. For Prince Albion, the most important value is to stand unnoticed by the rest of the world, able to know everything about others but keeping the world unaware of one's presence and, above all, one's secrets. For Princess Rozenn, on the other hand, what matters most is the protection of one's own territory, preventing rivals and enemies from accessing it, so much so that the territory could take on more importance than one's own family.
