Skunks

The Skunk people can be generally compared to a blend of Frisii, Batavi and Chauci society and members of Mephitidae biological family.
Skunks are one of the fifty-five races of anthropomorphic mammals that populate Yanìs, and are grouped in the subgenus of Mustelids together with Badgers, Otters, and Weasels.

Physically they are quite short and slender, never exceeding 4 feet in height or 20 kilograms in weight. They have rather elongated bodies with relatively short, strong legs but are equipped with long claws. Although most Skunks are black and white, some are brown or gray, and a few are even cream-colored. All Skunks are streaked from birth, with a single broad stripe along the back and tail, two thinner stripes, or a series of white spots and interrupted stripes.

The Skunk people were a tribal culture that lived scattered in the low-lying region between the northern deltas. They are resilient, proud, and independent, and the slowdown of Ersynia's advance is due to them, as they managed to keep their independence. Until the conquest by Wolves, the Skunk people had always elected tribal kings with limited powers and influential military leaders who led by example rather than authority. The Wolf people will not attack them directly but will pass through their territory and rivers to attack the Fox people. Some stories suggest that the Skunks were "won over," implying a Wolves' suzerainty that would be imposed and that over time, the Skunk people would provide auxiliaries through obligations of this treaty. However, some tribes also appear to have helped Foxes oppose Wolves' advance, and therefore some war accounts will mention Skunks on both sides of the conflict, although often the troops' actions under treaty obligations will be separate from the tribes' policies.

The Skunk people lands were largely abandoned due to climate deterioration and floods caused by rising sea levels, remaining empty for about a century until environmental and political conditions made the region habitable again, and new settlers could repopulate northern regions. Their cities consist of a series of burrows dug out of the soil and covered with clay and tile roofs, many of which don't even have windows due to their almost completely underground structure. This reason, not surprisingly, initially prompted them to abandon their original lands during periods of sea level rising.
They have a particular passion for floriculture and beekeeping, so much so that their cities are often incredibly beautiful and well-furnished with gardens and flowers. This passion of theirs has greatly facilitated their religious conversion from the moment of their conquest, making the Skunk people one of the nerve centers of Azlean cult of the whole planet. They also stood out for their seafaring skills, agriculture and herding, with a strong oral and musical tradition.

They speak the Commal language, common to all Anthro mammal races, and the most commonly spoken language on the planet.

Religiously they were mostly devoted to Lohudonist and Druidic traditions, with few deity cults. After the conquest by the Wolves, however, these traditions ended up being almost completely replaced by the cult of Azlean (deity of peace and gardens), Najan (deity of community and agriculture), Rowana (deity of hearth and love), and Dekar (deity of pride and wealth).

Their Ancestral Princes were Cenric and Brynja, who taught their race that the community welfare is more important than one's own. This is why it's well-seen that a male can marry more females, to allow the community to grow. In the same way, it's not dishonorable to avoid a fight or to drive away the enemy using one's glands to prevent one's loved ones or people from meeting death in battle.
