Sloths
The Sloth people can be generally compared to a blend of fictitious fantasy society and members of the Pilosa biological order.
Sloths are one of the fifty-five races of anthropomorphic mammals that populate Yanìs, and are grouped in the subgenus of Xenathras together with Anteaters and Armadillos.
Physically they're quite small, although not as slender as they may seem, with an average height generally less than 4 feet. They have a very small tail and an almost absent external ear. The body is covered with coarse guard hairs and a finer undercoat, which is thick and greyish. Thanks to a symbiotic alga, it can take on greenish tones that are useful for blending in. Adult males often have a yellow or orange pattern in the middle of their back. The arms are about twice as long as the legs, and all four have three slightly curved claws, with the central nail longer than the other two. Unlike the vast majority of mammals, the neck has nine vertebrae instead of seven, giving the head extreme mobility, and their nose is black and snub.
The Sloth people have always been strongly sedentary, born and developed in the southern Mogress' jungles. Some of their hanging cities even date back to their Ancestral Princes' time. They've been a separate but cooperative people, with independent city-states that always kept constant contacts with each other. They were initially governed by a counselor, oligarchically elected, and flanked by a court of notary administrators. From the moment the Armadillo people landed on Mogress after their expulsion, a fuzzy concept of Xenanthra subgenus union, which became stronger and more rooted over decades, began to make its way among the Sloth people. Strengthened by this concept and by an ever stronger need to counter the Labax empire and the danger of Korzatcal kingdom, the Sloth people began a series of negotiations with neighboring peoples in the name of a political union. It will take a few decades for this to happen, passing through back doors such as trading treaties, tech and war knowledges sharing, a sort of decades-long economic community, and other steps, but at the end the birth of the Sideral Republic will arrive more or less a century after the Tale.
Their economy has always been based on harvesting and farming, especially fruit and vegetables, with a slight mining capacity but developed artisanal and scientific skills. Art is almost absent if one excludes astronomy, divination, and magic, which they consider more as an artistic-creative form of inner expression. Despite their extremely slow nature, which can make them appear stupid or even disabled in certain contexts, including their very slow speech, Sloth people are among the most intelligent and scientifically advanced.
They speak the Commal language, common to all Anthro mammal races, and the most commonly spoken language on the planet.
Religiously they are mostly devoted to Cilldyn (deity of stars and exploration), Ekoari (deity of science and crafting), and Vael Nohr (deity of knowledge and memories), but here and there also thrive the cult of Sia Mori (deity of arts and will) and Dykren (deity of gamble and challenges).
Their Ancestral Princes were T'laphakya and I'zzapah, who taught their race the vital prominence of calm and slowness in daily life. It's useless to be in a hurry or to run far and wide around the world. What one needs is always at hand, and no goal is ever so important as to require more time than sleep and proper rest. Furthermore, the respect due to trees' foliage is undeniable, as thanks to them, not only one has shelter, food, and protection but, above all, one gets closer to the sky and its unexplored beauties.
Footnote
Typical of the Sloth people is the use of a strange means of transport called Kilitzuaka, a sort of hang glider with two side wings and one tail, made of plant tissue and palm, whose shape resembles that of a moth, often used for movements between urban centers at different altitudes.
