Weasels

The Weasel people can be generally compared to a blend of Celtic and Gaelic societies and members of the Mustelinae biological subfamily.
Weasels are one of the fifty-five anthropomorphic mammals that populate Yanìs, and are grouped in the subgenus of Mustelids along with Badgers, Otters and Skunks.

Physically, they are very small in stature and rarely reach 3.5 feet in height. Their physique is characterized by a strong difference between their limbs and torso due to their elongated torso and particularly short arms and legs. They have soft and short fur, with dark colors that can range from dark brown to sand on their back, while their chest and abdominal region is white or gray. There is also sexual dimorphism, with females being smaller and lighter than males.

The Weasels' society is based on a division into classes. The warrior aristocracy performs defense and offense tasks and generally rules the villages, while freemen have the prerogative for economic and agricultural activities, and the priests are magistrates who collect and promote community traditions, collective knowledge, and inter-tribal identity. They don't have a central government (at least not until the Confederation) and each city is essentially a self-regulated tribe. Each tribe is made up of around ten to twelve families or clans, and one of them, usually chosen through strength competitions, rules the entire tribe for an average of five to seven years.
Their villages are mostly composed of houses carved into the ground, with walls covered in wood and clay, and roofs that rise from ground level. Each village is typically surrounded by a wooden palisade and organized in a circular fashion around a longère, where most social activities take place, from judicial processes to religious rites and tribal celebrations. The longère, temples, and community structures are the only structures built from ground level upward.

The weasels do not rely on agriculture and only raise small animals for food and materials, mostly fowls and rodents. They have limited ability in breeding livestock, and a pair of cows or pigs can fulfill the needs of an entire village. Instead, they excel in hunting and river fishing, often with the help of well-trained dogs that serve as hunting companions and mounts. Some tribes also benefit from the proximity of large iron and copper mines. The weasels have not developed a rich literary or artistic culture, and most of their culture is passed down through heroic ballads and genealogy tales. However, they are skilled in the art of tapestry, wood carving, and iron and bronze jewelry.

They speak the Commal language, common to all Anthro mammal races, and the most commonly spoken language on the planet.

Religiously they are mostly devoted to Najan (deity of hunt and agriculture), Rowana (deity of family and love), and Dykren (deity of gamble and challenges), but here and there also thrive the cult of Ekoari (deity of commerce and crafting), Teeje (deity of piracy and navigation), Vael Nhor (deity of magic and memories), and Cilldyn (deity of stars and exploration).

Their Ancestral Princes were Geraint and Annik, who taught their race that nothing is permanent or unchanging, and there is no need to work hard to create something that should last. If they can take it from others or adapt it from something already existing, that is even better. The only truly lasting thing in the world is one's family and bloodline, so it is essential to never disrespect one's family and it is considered a primordial duty to keep the family name high.

Footnote
Typical of Weasel people is the use of a chariot called sha’rhy, a large wagon mounted on a sled and pulled by dogs or wolves, often furnished with enough comforts to accommodate two specimens in addition to the driver.
