Capricorn
Created by Ethaam during the time of myth to protect and preserve the beauty of shores and cliffs, Capricorns are magical creatures that inhabit rocky shores and beaches where large waves frequently form. They particularly favour beaches with sea stacks or waterfalls, and claim such territories for breeding. Capricorns have the head and forequarters of a chalicothere, with a tapering tail similar to that of a fish in place of the back legs. Their bodies are covered in fine scales, and they possess a long fin which runs along the entire back and rump.
Capricorns are air-breathing creatures, but they can hold their breath for extended periods and dive to great depths. They are intelligent beings and can even learn to speak multiple languages if exposed to them long enough. However, they possess a notably short and limited memory, causing them to forget what they have learned within a few days.
Capricorns lead lives similar to that of elephant seals or sea lions, but they are vegetarian creatures that primarily consume kelp and sea weeds on land and off the shore. Their personalities tend toward melancholy, passivity, fatalism, and stoicism. Although Capricorns have been known to save people from danger, they can also watch impassively when boats capsize or are wrecked on rocks. This makes them unreliable creatures and sometimes causes them to be despised and cursed.
Despite their unpredictable nature, Capricorns are sometimes employed by aquatic Anthro races as steeds or pack animals. However, Alchemists and Occultists gain little from their bodies and usually only use their eggs for water-related enchantments.
