Dragons

The first living creatures to populate Yanìs were the great dragons, created by Ethaam, the eternal sun of brilliant light. There were two different types of dragons, each with such wit and goodness of soul that they will never been equaled. The first were the Drakes, huge four-legged reptiles with large wings and a tyrannosaurus-like head, capable of breathing fire. The second were the Lindwurms, also known as oriental dragons because they lived in the eastern areas of Yanìs. Lindwurms were huge snakes with four small legs, a ceratops-like head, capable of air-swimming, and bending waters.

Jealous and annoyed by this creation, the Shadow Twins created their own dragons, which were of such cruelty and greed that no other mortal creature could match. Arysha, the perverse moon, created the Amphitheres by corrupting Lindwurm’s form. It replaced their legs with clawed, feathered wings, gave them a breath of corrosive fumes, and a spinosaurid-like head. Worak, the moon of terror, created the Wyverns by molding Drakes’ flesh. It removed their forelegs, gave them a huge poisoned sting at the end of their tails, a pterosaur-like head, and a shrill cry capable of shattering rock.

Power struggles between these four species were intense and constant, even after the disappearance of the Fallen Ancients. During the time of myth, between the fall of the Ancients and the coming of Gods, the Great Mother decided to put a brake on these struggles. Yanìs reduced the fertility of each dragon, almost resetting it, and imposed a periodic hibernation of fifty years on their metabolism. As a balance needle, a new race of dragons was created by mixing the four already existing races. This new race, the Hydras, was endowed with infinite wisdom, charisma, and an impartial soul. They were large and heavy creatures with three dilophosaurus-like heads and nine eyes. They walked on four legs but had no wings and emitted a different breath for each head.

During the time of myth, dragons imagined and created the diagrams and equations that allowed them to alter the world’s material reality, thus creating Magic. Drakes created mesmerism spells, Lindwurms created protection spells, Wyverns created the most devastating elemental spells, and Amphitheres created necromancy spells. The Hydras then created spells to control nature, animals, and plants, initiating druidic magic. When the time of the Gods came, Drakes and Lindwurms submitted to their greatness and wisdom, while Amphitheres and, above all, Wyverns, considered them usurpers. Dragons' races were expected to reside on the great Ring, and this is perhaps the only argument with which Wyverns and Amphitheres consider themselves a unique race, together with Drakes, Lindwurms, and even Hydras.

All dragons, of any kind, speak the ancient Draconic language, a very harsh, guttural, and difficult to pronounce language composed of whistles, hisses, pops, and other complications (perhaps a Russian gibberish). This language is often still used in modern times for Orthodox magic and traditions.
