GARGOUILLE
During the day in the arid and toxic salt flats of Virfaam, these creatures resemble statues carved from a dark stone. They have a striking resemblance to enormous birds of prey, but with a large reptilian snout equipped with two rows of sharp fangs. Additionally, their wings are more akin to bats and they have a sort of atrophied paw with three small yet deadly claws.
These creatures were created by Worak's terrifying darkness, a darkness so deep and ingrained in them that it has become a disadvantage. The darkness that pervades the Gargouille makes them "allergic" to bright sunlight. It only takes a single ray of sunlight at dawn touching their hard skin to turn them into stone statues until nightfall wraps them again.
During the day, Gargouilles take refuge in the numerous caves in the Virfaam area to avoid turning into stone. However, this transformation doesn't prevent them from experiencing the pangs of hunger. Gargouilles typically hunt alone or in pairs, though sometimes they band together to form fearsome tribes called "flocks" and raid and plunder. In rare instances, these flocks can become stable communities and launch real campaigns of devastation.
Gargouilles are not easy to kill due to their large size, flight skills, and aggressive behavior. Consequently, scholars who aim to extract their magical-alchemical components face many difficulties. It's also worth noting that these components must be extracted from "fleshy" bodies since a Gargouille destroyed in its stone form is nothing more than a simple rock.
