Kelpies are said to be the last creatures created by Ethaam before the Eternal Numbness. This is due to their great mutation skills, which they still possess, and can be traced back to the primordial chaos in which they were born. Kelpies can be described as huge axolotl salamanders, about the size of a large crocodile. They have a broad head with eyes that lack lids, underdeveloped limbs, long thin fingers, and three pairs of outer gills located behind the head. At moult time, they have four different pigmentations that can create various color variants, but their skin color is usually bluish-gray with purplish flecks and an olive undertone. The four types are: pale pink with black eyes, dark blue with golden eyes, gray with black eyes, and all gray with no spots or olive undertone.
However, unlike animal salamanders, Kelpies have various almost-magical abilities, the most famous of which is their ability to change and intensify skin color to express anger or hunger, lighting themselves up to even reach high illumination. Kelpies are also known for their ability to adhere to any surface and run upside down inside caves or dwellings without taking any risks. But more than any other ability, their miraculous self-healing ability is very renowned, enabling them to regenerate limbs, lungs, spinal cord, and even parts of the brain without scarring.
Typical of extremely humid and hot areas, this huge vegetarian amphibian can be found along the entire equator line, particularly on Gaburath island, where the Toad people have long since learned to train and ride them.
