Kraken
Not all creatures generated by the Great Mother Yanìs are docile and affable, and Krakens are certainly not one of them. Born from a concentration of power slightly less than the divine spark that created deities, Krakens are sea monsters that strike terror even in dragons. They were created by the Great Mother Yanis as a warning to all creatures, mortal and immortal, so that no one forgets the ephemeral volatility of life.
This tremendous leviathan resembles a huge squid or octopus with horns, fangs, and spikes. It is a creature the size of a whale, or rather, even larger, and can strike from the depths without being seen. Whole nations tremble with fear when a Kraken emerges from its underwater abode, bending the storms in the heart of the ocean to its will, the intensity of which it can reduce or increase. Krakens are capable of destroying the greatest triumphs of a civilization as if they were sand castles. Their devastating attacks can destroy maritime trade and disrupt communications between coastal cities.
A Kraken's attack is heralded by a sinister blanket of darkness and a cloud of noxious ink that dyes the water all around it. When their tentacles reach the surface, entire vessels and warships disappear into thin air. Krakens break the masts as if they were sticks and then drag both ships and their crews into the abyss. Even mainland inhabitants cannot be said to be safe, as Krakens can breathe air as easily as water, and some of them go up the rivers, fortunately only very rarely.
It is very unlikely that anyone will ever be able to extract components useful for magic, but for centuries people have been studying and theorizing about their magical properties.
