Moa

Moa is a primitive ground bird, nicknamed the "bird of pain". It is one of the largest carnivorous birds to have ever existed, with an average height of over 6 feet and weighing over 150kg. Moa features long, powerful, three-fingered legs with curved claws capable of inflicting severe wounds. The neck is long and supports a heavy head with a large, massive beak that ends in a hook, enabling it to tear prey apart. What makes this creature unique is that its bones are not calcium-based, like all other creatures, but iron-based. This feature not only gives Moa incredible physical resistance but also makes its claws and beak look and feel like steel.
Several cultures have been able to raise and train Moas, but only Raccoon people from Ersinya have mastered the art. For most Anthros, Moas remain very difficult creatures to manage, often dangerous and unstable. However, Raccoons have found a way to make them friendly and affectionate most of the time. In fact, the famous and colorful wagon-houses of Raccoons are always pulled by one or two Moas, making them incredibly well-known even to Anthros who were previously unaware of their existence.
At the time of the Tale, there were very few flocks of Moas in the wild, generally scattered in large grasslands and wide flat areas. In the wild, they live in small flocks, with no more than ten or twelve specimens led by an alpha couple that trace their main migratory movements. They mainly feed on small mammals such as hares, possums, prairie dogs, and foxes, but it is not uncommon to see them fishing in shallow rivers.
