Nagas are loving and affectionate creatures, born from Azlean's love for the peaceful streams that wind through the planet's rolling hills. They have the appearance of very huge newts, with smooth and slimy skin, mostly purple with bluish or reddish variations, and with long tapered snouts not unlike that of gharials. Contrary to their appearance, which may seem creepy to some, their attitude is nothing short of tame. In fact, most Nagas have the docile attitude of a common apartment dog, no more terrible than a Labrador puppy.
Naga live in pairs, giving birth to one or two tadpoles once every three years, and build their den, with brushwood and mud, between the banks of small streams. They feed mainly on insects, small reptiles or rodents, but often alternate their diet with large quantities of fruit and vegetables.
Many Nagas are sold and bred to serve as magical familiars for practitioners of all kinds of magic. In fact, they have a particular ability that makes them excellent familiars, albeit been rare and expensive: they attenuate the sounds and amplify the aromas of the environment around them, thus making the effort of studying magic more efficient. It has in fact been studied that their magical nature is able to make any environment incomparably more comfortable, and their presence brightens the mind and relaxes the nerves.
Very few alchemists and occultists would have the heart to kill such a creature, even though the fluids secreted from its body can be used as ingredients for potions of various kinds.
